Try to describe Shelby Lynn's sound and you'll quickly find that "shallow" is not among the possible terms. The diminutive singer encompasses a menagerie of sounds and styles on the Magnatone release, Restless.
Once again, Shelby teams up with Jamie O'Hara, formerly one-half
of The O'Kanes, and producer Brent Maher.
If you're not familiar with Shelby's work, "Slow Me Down"
is a grand "How-do-you-do." The power-driven number is Lynne's first
appearance on the charts in some time and has proven infectious for
listeners, who helped drive it steadily up the charts with increased
airplay requests.
The greatest pleasure from Restless is the varied
styles of each song, sounding at once traditional and classic, like
the uptempo "Another Chance At Love" or tugging at the blues with
the soulful "Just for the Touch of Your Hand" and "Wish I Knew." Shelby
also delivers a ringing performance with the jazzy "Reach For The
Rhythm" and closes out the album with the Harlem-flavored punch of
"Swingtown."
Restless will stand the test of time, and you may
find yourself setting your sterio on "continuous" mode. An exceptionally
juicy album and a defining selection of work, Restless fully
demonstrates how Lynne "can sing the chrome off a trailer hitch."
