Suzy Bogguss
somewhere Between
Liberty Records

I never knew a voice could captivate me the way that Suzy Bogguss's does. Her vocals are angelic, resonating with a crisp cleanness that reverberates the soul. On Somewhere Between Suzy delves into a menagerie of writers to come up with the material for her debut effort on the Capitol label, a collective body that spans the history of country music, from Hank Williams Sr.'s "My Sweet Love Ain't Around" to the title track by Merle Haggard. Yet it is the signature song of the esteemed grand dame of country /western music, Patsy Montana that defines the best moments on this album. Patsy's venerable classic "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart" breathes new life through Suzy's immaculate vocals.
Suzy herself contributes to the songwriting credits on two cuts. She teams with husband Doug Crider for "I'm At Home On The Range" and with G.E. Scruggs for "Take It Like A Man." Other notable songwriters include Pam Tillis ("Handyman's Dream") and Rodney Crowell ("Guilty As They Come").
Somewhere Between is a thrilling herald of a career that will surely provide years of listening enjoyment for country fans.
